It was getting towards the end of May and our mustaches were in full bloom in preparation for our annual Quebec City trip. It all started about 2:30 in the afternoon when we were greeted by an RV full of rowdy BC Boys towing a trailer full of boats. We took full advantage of the 9 hour drive into Quebec by getting prepped for the Party to come (the whiskey poured like water). Once in the city we were greeted by a few more car loads of friends, also pumped up from drinks and good music. Ready to show off our mustaches either grown or drawn on, we were surprise to show up to a city wide 80’s party called the pinch of love, what a great and unexpected way to start off our trip.

The next day everyone got to do a run and pick what they thought would be the fastest lines, along with this was a little bit of chirping on who they thought would be the fastest. That night we hung out in a sweet chalet, provided by Red Bull for some of the invited athletes, and had a bit tamer night then the one before except for Max Davidson who provided some good entertainment.

Race day was here and everyone had there teammates picked. Teams of 2 raced 2 runs down the Nelson River Section B and the fastest combined time of the 2 runs won. Not only was speed an asset but the winning team also had to be consistently fast. Sitting at the last and biggest rapid with a very big crowd, considering the hike in, provided some great entertainment with a mix of really smooth lines and some decent carnage. On more than one occasion there were people swimming across the finish line. One time both team members swam across together.

The Racers sitting at the top of the race, after completing their first race run, were given a little something else to think about after hearing about Ben Browns near death experience of going through a sieve in the first rapid.
Thankfully, he was able to flush through and all was good. With the extra motivation the rest of the racers were able to stay well left on the first rapid and everyone managed to finish the race off with no major injuries.

After the race Redbull put on a sweet party with hot tubs, a sweet regga-tone band and dirt cheap drinks. and thats where we found out the results. In 3rd place Patrick Camblin and Rush Sturges. With the winners left to be called, there were a few tense moments for Dave and Tyler as they chilled in the hot tubs, knowing either team could have pulled out the win. When the word came in it was Tyler Fox and Joey Hitchins in second and the returning champs in first place Dave Neiuwenhuis and Ben Marr. Who got to pick plane tickets any where in the world for being the fastest time. For being 11 seconds off after two combined runs down this classic stretch Tyler and Joey received a quick kick in the ass, with hopes it would speed them up for next year.

To end the trip we went back into Quebec City for just one of the cities 400th anniversary partys. I love Quebec City and was sad to leave. It definitely provides the essential B’s.
