Birthdays are meant to be a day for yourself, a day to do what ever it is you want to do. For the past 6 years Kayaking has been it! Having my birthday fall on Nov 28 is good and bad. Most years I am out of Canada by then celebrating my birthday on the warmer waters of some Southern Hemisphere river, but there are those years I am still in Canada, such as this year. I am not complaining though, Canada has treated me well, my last CAN birthday was spent surfing Bussy and this year I got to run Hogs Back Falls for the first time.

Hogs Back Falls is located minutes from down town Ottawa, beside the university. It needs some water to run and typically runs in spring and fall. This section of rapids (3 rapids in total; the double drop, the spout, and the slide) is with out a doubt this areas greatest “creeking / River Running” resource. I use the term creeking loosely, but these drops are such a great place for beginner to intermediate paddlers to introduce themselves to the world of vertical drops, and with that the strokes and moves that accompany.
It is not without danger, water levels depending, but it is easily scouted from both sides via the viewing trail.

If anyone has questions about Hogs Back Falls please feel free to contact me: tyler_fox@hotmail.com. I would love to see more people out there enjoying this amazing place.
